Trail riding at the Ranch

The Western Ranch is located in the middle of thousands of hectares of beautiful jarrah and karri bush. No shortage of trails here. We welcome you to explore this giant wonderland.

Take your own horse or ride one of our Quarter Horses. There’'s no head-to-tail riding here. We let you ride to your ability and as much as you want! We specialize in "on demand" horse rides, meaning you can book your rides for when you want and as long as you want. We have a couple of standard rides available. Click on the menu on the right for more information.

All you need to do is call and book .... your saddle awaits.

Day Rides

The times of the rides are approximates. Depending on the riders they can take shorter or longer. Allow for about 15 -20 extra minutes to fill in your forms and some pre-ride instructions in our safe arena.

Helmets are compulsory and will be provided.

All riders are required to fill out a disclaimer. Horse riding is dangerous.

Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes, preferably boots (no ride with thongs or open sandals).

We have a minimum age of 10 years for bush rides; 6 years for riding lessons.

Maximum weight is 100 kg.

Make sure you are aware of our cancellation policy.

Ranch Ride

Ranch Ride

Always wanted to ride a horse? Now is your chance.

Our Ranch Ride will take you on a leisurely stroll around our property. Ride up the hill and circle our undulating paddocks. Watch the mares and their foals play in spring or look out over the dam towards the house and riding arenas. We will then duck into the forest and circle our way back through some narrow, winding tracks. You will probably run into a kangaroo or two and daddy emu and his chicks.

The ride will take about 45 minutes. This ride is perfect for beginner riders or for children over 10 years of age. We can even take you on a lead line if preferred.

Forest Ride

Forest Ride

The Ranch is surrounded by hectare upon hectare of tall towering trees. There is an abundance of tracks to choose from. Our experienced guides will take you for an interesting, enjoyable ride. The bush is especially beautiful in Spring, when all the wildflowers are in bloom. The area boasts truly stunning and unique flora and fauna. You can experience it first hand on the back of one of our well trained horses. No tail riding here.

The ride will take about 2 hours. This ride is perfect for intermediate riders. Depending on the group we can walk, trot and canter.

River Ride

River Ride

Want to spend a day in the saddle? Join us for a ride to the Warren River. Look out over farmland, duck and dive along small bush tracks and have a canter on the big logging roads. If you are up for it, we are!

Our guides are experienced horsemen who can show you the beauty of riding well trained horses on an unforgettable ride. Don't forget your bathers if you want to go for a dive in the river. Lunch will be served at our special magical spot.

The ride will take about 5 hours of which 4 hours riding and one hour lunch (included). This ride is perfect for more experienced riders. Depending on the group we can walk, trot and canter.

Departs Saturdays: 10 o'clock.

Tavern Ride

Tavern Ride

On request we can organise a ride to the Quinninup Tavern. It takes about 2 hours to get to the Tavern.

The trail goes through some lovely Jarrah bush and a pine plantation. On a hot day you can cool off in one of the dams along the way.

You can purchase lunch and a drink at the pub.

You then have the option to ride back to the Ranch or the horses can be loaded on the float and we will drive back by car.

This ride is perfect for more experienced riders. Depending on the group we can walk, trot and canter.

Overnight Rides

Two days, one night

You can choose between arriving Friday afternoon before 3pm or Saturday before 10am. If you arrive Friday we will start with a 2 hour ride in the afternoon. Enjoy a home made meal and our Ranch style accommodation. After a tasty breakfast Saturday morning we will head out to the River around 10 am, together with the people who arrived this morning. Lunch will be served on the banks of the Warren River. Take your bathers for a refreshing swim. Around 3.30pm we will be back at the Ranch. After brushing down the horses it's time to leave for the people who came Friday. The others will enjoy the 2 hour forest ride on Sunday morning.

Three days, two nights

Arrive Friday before 3pm. We will head out for a nice 2 hour ride in the Southern Forests. Enjoy the comforts of the Ranch and have a look at the resident horses. Saturday is reserved for a full day of riding to the Warren River. Lunch will be served on a magical spot along the river. We will arrive back at the Ranch late afternoon which gives you time to freshen up for a lovely dinner. Sunday we will finish your holiday with another 2 hour ride on a number of small winding bush tracks.

Overnight trail rides are suited for intermediate and more experienced riders due to the amount of riding involved. We go out in small groups so the overnight stays can be adjusted to your wishes. It might be possible to offer riding lessons in our arena or a clinic watching and learning when we work with horses in training. Please ask for different possibilities when booking.

Lessons

Horse Riding Lessons

We want to help improve your riding skills and encourage people to get on their horse and enjoy it. It doesn't matter how good of a rider you are! There are quite a few people out there that don't feel that confident. We understand that a horse can be pretty intimidating sometimes and we would like to help you built your confidence again.

The lessons can be on your own horse or on one of our horses. We can teach you basic Dressage, Western Riding, handling and riding young horses and general riding skills. You can have lessons with Monique or with Erwin. Please note that we don't have any formal Australian qualifications for giving horse riding lessons.

Depending on what you want to work on we can work in the round yard or in the arena. A lesson will take about 50 minutes to an hour. All lessons are private and cost $40. You can share a lesson, but with no more then 2 people. We also have a lesson card available; 5 lessons for $200 and the 6th lesson free.

Once the lesson is confirmed and booked it's non refundable. We don't take any responsibility for any accident or injuries that might occur to you or your horse. Every rider has to wear a helmet and have the proper gear for the horse. You will have to fill out and sign a disclaimer form.

Looking for a great day out? Why not bring some of your horsey friends and visit the Ranch? We offer a FREE day for horse lovers. During the day you can watch us ride and train horses. Ask questions, check out the facilities, even bring a horse to work with. You bring some lunch and we will provide the morning tea.

One day Clinic

One Day Clinic

Is an hour lesson never enough? Do you feel there are to many people in a clinic to really get value for your money? Why not book yourself into a private clinic? Whenever suits you.

During the clinic we work with you and your horse, at any level. Ground work, float loading, bad habits, introduction to western riding, general riding skills, respect issues, flying lead changes or just a relaxed trail ride in the surrounding bush. You can also watch us work with different horses. It's up to you.

If you don't have a horse, we can provide one for you.

Do you really want to get ahead and learn as much as you can? Come to the Ranch for a whole weekend. We've got excellent facilities for you and your horse. All meals, accomodation lessons and full board for you and your horse are included. You can also ride one of our horses.

Organise a Clinic

We are available to come to your Club to give one or two day clinics. You will get 2 instructors for the price of one. The clinic we run can consist of individual lessons or group lessons. Topics we teach are:

The Horses

Our Horses

All horses at the Ranch are registered Quarter Horses. They are well trained and suit beginner to experienced riders.

Winchester Rounded Edge

Winchester

11 yr old gelding. Winchester is very responsive and will be a delight to ride for the medium to experienced rider. He is nice and forward, willing to work for you.

Mio

15 yr old gelding.

Mio had his share of trail rides and lessons.

He is well suited for beginner to intermediate riders.

Jet

6 yr old gelding.

Jet is at the Ranch on a 4 year lease. After that his owner wants him back because he is such a lovely horse to ride in the bush.

Bear

16 yr old gelding. Bear is like his name, a big cuddly bear. Tall and solid for the more sturdy rider.

Maverick

4 yr old gelding. Maverick has just been started under saddle, but is already behaving like a pro. He will be used as extra horse to get some more experience under his belt.

Sundance

6 yr old gelding. Sundance just joined our trail ride herd. He is a small, slow horse with a big heart.

Zippo

13 yr old mare. Zippo is a sweetheart that will stand for you all day so you can learn how to handle a horse. She is perfect for beginner or nervous riders. Zippo has the easiest trot and canter to sit to.

Trixie

7 yr old mare. Trixie is a superstar in the reining pen. She is only for the most experienced riders. You will often see Erwin ride her as lead horse.

Weekend Clinic

So today I finally got to practice everything I learnt and boy was it great.

I rode the horse who has a bit of go which was great as I actually got to practice things other than just trying to make her go. We did a bit of cantering, great on one side but I had a bit of trouble getting her to pick up the right lead on the other side so I employed everything I learnt to try and get her to pick up the right lead. My instructor made me do a small circle and then try to get her to canter and it was so nice to know why I was doing this as it wasn't really explained.

I then even did some turns on the hindquarter. Again it was just put your hand here, kick here but luckily I knew WHY I was doing this and boy did it make me feel so much better about doing it.

I still didn't get to tack up but at least I didn't freak out walking her to the arena or taking off this bridle and putting her halter on after.

I just want to say thank you so much to both of you! Even just doing what I did today I feel so much more confident and at ease after spending the time with you. And it is so much more enjoyable doing things when you actually know why you're doing it! I know I am still going to have to work on my confidence on the ground quite a bit more as not having the opportunity to do it now will mean I can't practice to get better at it but I know my riding is going to get better and better from here on.

Our Ranch Ride and Forest rides are conducted daily. The River Ride only goes on Saturdays. Clinics are held by appointment. Bookings are essential for all rides.

Please wear long pants and study shoes when you come for a ride.

Helmets are compulsory. We will provide them for you, if you have your own helmet you can bring it with you.

Cancellation Policy: We require a 50% deposit to secure your booking. This deposit is non refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of the event. Ask us about payment options.
